BridgeVision Selected for Blue Water Bridge Technology Pilot

BridgeVision is pleased to announce its participation in the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) Technology Pilot Zones (TPZ) program through a pilot project at the Blue Water Bridge in Point Edward, Ontario.

The project is supported through OVIN, led by the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI), with funding from the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).

The Blue Water Bridge is one of Canada’s most significant international transportation crossings, connecting Ontario and Michigan while supporting the movement of millions of travellers and billions of dollars in trade each year. The bridge provides an ideal environment to evaluate emerging technologies that may contribute to the future management of critical infrastructure.

Advancing Digital Bridge Asset Management

BridgeVision was founded with a simple objective: combine practical bridge engineering experience with modern reality-capture technologies to improve how bridge infrastructure is documented, understood and managed over its service life.

BridgeVision’s’ Blue Water Bridge TPZ project will evaluate an engineering-led workflow integrating drone-based photogrammetry, LiDAR and digital-twin technologies to create comprehensive digital records of bridge condition.

Rather than replacing conventional bridge inspections, the project aims to investigate how these technologies can complement existing engineering practice by providing repeatable, spatially referenced condition information that can support long-term asset management.

Areas being explored include:

• engineering-grade reality capture;

• high-resolution digital bridge documentation;

• digital twins for infrastructure visualization and condition records management;

• repeatable comparison between capture cycles;

• long-term monitoring of corrosion and coating deterioration; and

• improved communication of bridge condition between engineers, owners and maintenance teams.

Collaboration Through Innovation

BridgeVision is grateful for the opportunity to work alongside the Federal Bridge Corporation Limited and OVIN through the TPZ program.

Programs such as TPZ provide an important opportunity for Canadian innovators to evaluate emerging technologies on real infrastructure while working closely with infrastructure owners to better understand operational requirements and engineering challenges.

As a small Canadian engineering company, this pilot represents an exciting opportunity to demonstrate how practical engineering knowledge and digital technologies can be combined to develop solutions that address real infrastructure needs.

Looking Ahead

Field activities are anticipated to begin during the summer of 2026, with the pilot continuing through the end of the year.

While this project represents an important milestone for BridgeVision, we believe its greatest value lies in the lessons learned through collaboration with experienced bridge owners, engineers and industry partners.
